University of North Georgia junior ace Courtney Poole…
LOUISVILLE, Ky. | University of North Georgia junior ace Courtney Poole has been selected as the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II National Pitcher of the Week. Poole pitched just the second perfect game in North Georgia history last week.
In addition to the perfecto, Poole picked up another three wins and a save in the Nighthawks’ 6-0 week. The Watkinsville, Ga., native allowed just one earned run off an infield single in 23.1 innings pitched last week. In that stretch she allowed only 11 hits and one walk, while striking out 34 batters.
“Courtney worked really hard through the fall and it is great to see her hard work paying this season,” UNG head coachMike Davenport said. “She is shouldering much of the load for us in the circle and I’m very proud of the way she has carried herself and stepped up as a team leader. We’re thrilled the NFCA is recognizing her performance.”
Poole currently leads the Peach Belt Conference in ERA 1.07 and ranks second in strikeouts with 80.
“It’s a great honor to be named National Pitcher of the Week by the NFCA,” Poole said. “I could not have done it without the help of my teammates. It was a team effort that led to our success last week.”
