GAINESVILLE – Thousands of veterans are buried in Alta Vista Cemetery and the Daughters of the Confedracy are planning an event to honor their service.

On Dec. 15, Wreaths Across America will come to Gainesville.

Gail Mangum, spokeswoman for the General James Longstreet Chapter of Daughters of the Confederacy said seven ceremonial wreaths will be placed at the cemetery. The wreaths will specially designated to honor members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, and POW/MIA. The ceremony is part of a national event that will take place at more than 400 locations.
