Georgia Mountain Center becomes Brenau Downtown Center

Dec. 18, 2012 – Gainesville owned Georgia Mountains Center is now officially becomes, Brenau Downtown Center.

This new location will be the home of the expanded graduate degree programs in physical therapy and other health sciences.

At an unofficial “move-in day” ceremony, Brenau President Ed Schrader and Gainesville Mayor Danny Dunagan heralded, what they called, the “great new partnership” between the university and the city of Gainesville.

The convention, trade show and events venue for more than three decades has been losing money for the city and Brenau needed some space nearby to launch a doctorate in physical therapy and other health professions programs.

The 10-year lease, which is renewable for up to 50 years, takes red ink off the city government’s books while giving Brenau room to grow.

Mayor Dunagan agreed with Schrader that the relationship Brenau is cultivating with the city will be a long-lasting one.
