Sept. 19, 2013 – After a fire at a home in Winder, the body of an 18-month-old Winder girl was recovered.
The fire started just after 2 AM Wednesday and the home was destroyed by fire overnight.
Three other people, a 50-year-old man, 22-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl all sustained critical injuries in the fire and were airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital.
According to Barrow County Fire & Emergency Services Lt. Scott Dakin, the victims were treated for burns and smoke inhalation.
Dakin said drivers passing by the saw the fire and notified authorities. Barrow County fire crews also called for assistance of the Arcade and South Jackson Volunteer Fire Departments to aid in shuttling water to the three fire engines battling the blaze. The home was a complete loss.
Another person visiting the two-story residence was located, treated and released from the hospital.
Fire crews had the fire nearly under control by 5 a.m. The investigation is under way into the cause of the fatal blaze.
