Sept. 18, 2013 – Saddly to say, a 20-year-old drown yesterday while trying to swim from the beach to boat docks at Sunset Cove on Lake Lanier.
DNR said the body of Shaquille Marquise Connor-Blunt of College Park was recovered by Hall County Emergency Medical Services yesterday at about 4:35 PM.
Hall County Fire Services marine rescue unit divers found Connor-Blunt in about 17 feet of water and they said he was underwater for about 40 minutes, and efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
Fire Chief Kimbrell said that the victim entered the water along the shore and tried to swim, along with two others, to one of the boat docks approximately 100 yards away inside Sunset Cove.
About halfway, Connor-Blunt stated he couldn’t make it, and the three tried to turn around and help, but were almost overcome themselves.
Kimbrell said he became tired and went under, but the two others were able to make it back to the shore.
