Dec. 10, 2012 – Last week we reported the death of a Cumming man, Nelson Garner, at his deer processing business in Hancock County.

Authorities are still tight-lipped about the investigation.

John Bankhead, director of public affairs for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said, No arrests have been made for the slaying of Garner on December 2nd.

Garner’s body was found by his brother about 9:30 p.m. at Garner’s Grinder on Hwy. 16 in Sparta.

Bankhead said, “It’s an ongoing investigation, and we can’t discuss details, sometimes these things take a while to resolve.”

According to Bankhead, the GBI has conducted road checks and interviews, among other measures.

He said that agents also have been checking into Garner’s background “to see if there might be anybody that might have a grudge.”

Bankhead said The GBI was called in at the request of the sheriff’s office in Hancock County, because he said murders are rare there.

According to the GBI, an autopsy was conducted Monday at its medical examiner’s office in Decatur.

Bankhead said the cause of death is being withheld due to the investigative value, though he added “it was obvious” that Garner had been killed.

He had last been seen alive at 4 p.m. that day, 5 hours before his brother found him.
