There is a lot on the plate of the Gainesville City Council for today.
OK Lake Lanier LLP, is requesting to annex more than 76 acres of land so it can build more houses.
And just so you know, the City Council approved the first vote on Cresswind earlier this month.
The company’s Vice President said it’s selling houses faster than expected and, if this pace continues, it will have less than a year’s supply of lots available.
There were some conditions though, one of those is that a traffic study must be conducted before development can begin, though clearing and grading the land will be allowed.
The traffic study was previously delayed at the request of city Planning Manager Matt Tate, who said the city could not get accurate counts until school is in session.
Gainesville City Council to consider buying fire rescue vehicle
Gainesville Fire Chief Jerome Yarbrough has asked Gainesville City Council for $305,995 to replace a rescue vehicle.
Funds of $300,000 had been put aside for this capital purchase in fiscal year 2014, but the purchase price ended up being nearly $6,000 more. A fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30.
The additional cost is expected to be paid through impact fees. The council is scheduled to vote on the item at its meeting tonight.
Gainesville City Council considers building 2 dry storage facilities
The Gainesville Public Utilities Department has asked the Gainesville City Council for $300,000 to construct dry storage buildings at Hancock Avenue and Marler Street facilities. The storage buildings would be to protect and store its equipment fleet.
Funds were identified for this in the city’s five-year capital improvements plan for fiscal 2014. City officials are proposing two storage sheds and a wash bay.
The Walters Barn scheduled for vote for “agri-entertainment” use
The Hall County Board of Commissioners is scheduled today to discuss approving a request from Jim Walters to allow use of his barn for social gatherings, such as farm weddings.
The barn is in an agricultural residential district. In a new “agri-entertainment” law, all event venues in unincorporated Hall that charge a fee for their use must have a business license, a certificate of occupancy and be approved by the commission.
The types of events include farm weddings, receptions, public gatherings or similar uses determined by the county planning director. The events shouldn’t negatively impact neighboring properties, the ordinance said.
The building for the event must be at least 300 feet from property lines of different landowners and parking must be 200 feet from any property lines. The ordinance also includes limiting noise, except during a wedding ceremony, and the number of attendees.
Hall commission meeting rescheduled for today
The Hall County Board of Commissioners work session, usually held every other Monday, is scheduled for 3 p.m. today at the Hall County Government Center, 2875 Browns Bridge Road, Gainesville. The meeting had to be moved due to scheduling conflicts.
