Jan. 3, 2013 – The Gainesville City Council will hold a work session today to address issues relating to renovating the Wessell Park Court, pawnshop licenses, and demolition of the Green Street Pool.
Green Street Pool was opened in 1931; In 2009 the city closed the site because it needed between $500,000 and $750,000 in repairs.
The reported goal is to demolish the swimming pool and fill it in to create more green space, they are considering turning the area into a park for picnicking and tailgating.
As for Wessell Park, it needs repairs to its tennis courts.
Deputy Director Michael Graham said both projects should be started together and they plan to have the bidding for the work on them at the same in hopes that it would be could be easier and less expensive to the city.
