Oct. 16, 2013 – Authorities said that a Gainesville man was killed and four others in a single-vehicle rollover in McDuffie County in East Georgia this past Monday.
The Augusta Chronicle reported that a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Christopher B. Williams, of Pendleton, S.C., southbound on Washington Road in Thomson swerved to miss a truck and went airborne before rolling, according to the Georgia State Patrol. A witness told officers that the truck was traveling faster than 80 mph.
There were four passengers in the truck along with Williams and none were wearing seat belts. All four were ejected from the vehicle.
Authorities said one man died due to this accident, 35 year old Jesus Garcia Gonzalez, of Gainesville was in the front seat and was killed.
The Augusta Chronicle said Williams was driving on a suspended license for a DUI conviction.
Authorities said charges are pending and Williams could be charged with vehicular homicide.
A funeral for Gonzalez is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Gainesville.
