Aug. 23, 2013 – The Georgia Mountains’ unemployment rate was unchanged in July.
The Georgia Department of Labor announced the unemployment rate was unchanged in the region at 7.9 percent from June to July. And that is still better July a year ago.
In metro Gainesville specifically, the unemployment rate decreased to 7.5 percent in July, down one-tenth of a percentage point from June. And much better than last years’ 8.2 percent.
The rate declined because 322 more residents became employed.
While the state lost jobs in July, Gainesville went against the trend and added 100with most of the growth in trade and transportation.
As for other areas of Georgia, Metro Athens had the lowest area jobless rate at 6.9 percent, while metro Dalton and the Heart of Georgia-Altamaha region had the highest at 12.3 percent.
