GAINESVILLE — Hall County deputies have charged a Monroe man with impersonating a police officer following a traffic stop on Browns Bridge Road.
Authorities were alerted to be on the lookout for a possible police impersonator last Friday. When they stopped 32-year-old Nicholas Clayton Wilbanks they noticed he was wearing military-style fatigues and a U.S. Department of Justice shirt.
The black Dodge Charger he was driving was equipped to simulate an unmarked law enforcement vehicle with tinted windows, emergency lights, false antennas, a camera system and laptop computer.
Several weapons, ballistic vests, law enforcement T-shirts and a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives badge were also found in the vehicle.
Authorities are asking anyone who believes they may have been stopped by the suspect to call the sheriff’s office Criminal Investigations Division at 770-531-6879.
