Feb. 6, 2013 – Today is the day for the celebration of the Gainesville Red Elephants Championship Victory.
Last Wednesday the stormy weather caused the festivities honoring Gainesville High School’s AAAAA championship football team to be postponed, but the weather should not be a problem today, the forecast is calling for sunshine and temperatures in the 60s.
School will be dismissing one hour early to allow faculty and students to participate.
According to Gainesville Police spokesman Kevin Holbrook, “there will be no actual road closures, just temporary traffic interruptions. These should start around 3:30 p.m. and conclude around 4:00 p.m.”
If you would like to get a good spot to see the parade that starts at GHS, the school suggests: Oak Street, Academy Street from its intersection with Oak up to Green Street and Green Street toward City Park.
A reception for the team and its coaches is planned at Bobby Gruhn Field, behind the civic center.
