Apr. 03, 2013 – Yesterday afternoon Seven people, including five children ages 1-12, were hurt in a two-vehicle wreck in Habersham County.
Authories said a 7-year-old child was the most seriously injured in the crash, and that she was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.
According to officers, a Nissan Altima driven by 52-year-old Sherrelyn Harper of Covington was attempting to pull from Grandis Heights Circle, where Dollar General is located.
As the Altima crossed the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 441 (Georgia Highway 15), it was struck by a Ford Fusion.
The Ford Fusion was driven by 27-year-old Hannah Cheek and was in the right lane going northbound.
Offcials said Cheek attempted to swerve to the right to avoid striking the Altima, but collided with the Altima in the driver’s side doors.
Cheek was hurt and was taken by ambulance to Habersham Medical Center.
Five children in the Nissan Altima were injured.
The Sheriff’s office said the only child who was properly restrained was a 2-year-old, who was in a child seat behind the passenger.
Lewis said charges are pending against Sherrelyn Harper.
