Thieves Target Catalytic Converters

CUMMING — Catalytic converters have become the target of choice for thieves in Forsyth County.

In recent weeks, deputies have responded to a number of thefts on Trotter’s Way, McFarland Parkway, and Parkway North Drive.

The coverters contain rhodium, an expensive precious metal, and can be sold at scrap yards for $100 to $150 each. Authorities say it takes less than a minute for theives to remove them with the aid of a battery-powered saw.

Unfortunately, replacing a stolen catalytic converter can be expensive for the car owner. Depending on the make and model of the car, it can cost between $300 and $1,000.
