The Gainesville High School Girls Varsity Track team wins the annual Barberitos Invitational Track tournament

ar. 19, 2013 – The Gainesville High School Girls Varsity Track team won the annual Barberitos
Invitational Track tournament held on March 16, 2013 at Oconee County High
School. Competing against nine teams, this is the first time in the past eight
years that GHS Girls Track has won the entire event.

Gainesville was led by their Junior co-captain and All-State teammate Sara
Hayes. Sara won three medals – winning Gold in the 800 meters, Silver on the
4×400 relay team, and Bronze in the 300 meter hurdles where she once again
broke the school record with a time of 49.19 seconds.

Stasha Hopkins also got into the Gainesville record books by breaking the school
record in the Shot-Put. Stasha won Gold in the Shot-Put by throwing the Shot 35
feet and 5 finches shattering the old school record of 34-3. Stasha also took home
a Silver medal in the Discus with a throw of 89-6 feet.

Other medal winners were as follows: Mia Buffington – Silver on the 4×4 relay
team; Kabree Randolph – 2 Silver medals the Long Jump (16 feet) and 4×4 meter
relay team; Denisha Lyles – Bronze in the Triple Jump; Happi Sims – Silver on the
4×400 meter relay team; and Alexis Smith – Bronze in the Pole Vault.

Other great contributors in individual events were: Mia Buffington and Kacie
Wimpye finishing 5th and 7th in the 300 hurdles; Ontreal Harris finishing 8th
and 6th in the Triple jump and 100 meters; Happi Sims finishing 6th in the pole
vault; Lyndi Ellison finishing 6th in the Discus.
