Suwanee Residents, Be Aware of Fraudulent Calls

Jun. 19, 2013 – This is for the people of Suwanee: police are telling the residents of the area to be aware of a man who has been making calls to residence and claiming to be a police officer who is attempting to collect fines.

Suwanee Police Capt. said the scam is similar to those we have heard about in metro Atlanta and that two separate cases are being investigated at this time.

According to authorities, the caller tells the resident they’ll be arrested if they don’t pay the fine immediately, and then he offers to take a credit card number over the phone.

Capt. Mooney said that you should know that if your are trouble you are going to get a summons to court and you’re going to have to appear in front of a judicial body.

You would never be threatened to make a payment over the phone.

Mooney warns residents to never give anyone their credit card numbers over the phone, no matter how official they sound.

Mooney suggests that if you live in Suwanee and you get one of these calls you call the police directly and file a report.
