Jan. 18, 2013 – Forsyth County’s long-awaited $100 million jail/courthouse construction project will begin next week, beginning with the demolition of the 246 space pardking deck.
Commissioners awarded the work to Industrial Facilities Solutions of Gainesville and approved the $385,000 contract at yesterday’s meeting.
Work scheduled to take place from 7 AM until 5 PM Monday – Saturday until completed.
County officials say no road closures are expected but there may be occasional lane closures on the streets surrounding the parking deck.
The project begins next week and should be complete sometime in March.
The project was approved by Forsyth County voters in November 2011 as part of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax or SPLOST VII program.
Jan. 10, 2013 – The Hall County Tax Commissioner’s office will now be serving citizens from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every weekday in an effort to better meet the needs of Hall County residents.
The office was previously open to citizens from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every weekday.
The change in operating hours coincides with Darla Eden beginning her term in office as tax commissioner for the County. Eden was elected by Hall County voters last year and replaces Keith Echols, who retired at the end of 2012.
“The slight change in operating hours stems from our desire to mirror the business hours of the departments housed in the Hall County Government Center where we are located,” Eden said. “Staying open later will most definitely give citizens more time and convenience as they conduct business with property and motor vehicle tax transactions. We will continue to evaluate the tax office hours and locations on an ongoing basis to best suit the needs of our citizens.”
The change in operating hours for the public went into effect Wednesday, Eden’s first day in office following the New Year’s holiday.
Jan. 3, 2013 – New Hall County Board of Commissioners Chairman Dick Mecum, Commissioner Jeff Stowe, Sheriff Gerald Couch, Tax Commissioner Darla Eden, Surveyor Jason Lourie and Judge Patti Walters Laine.

The meeting will be held at the Mulberry Creek Community Center in Flowery Branch.
