MLK jr Day in Gainesville

Jan. 22, 2013 – The 43rd annual Gainesville celebration of Martin Luther King Jr Day began with song and prayer at E.E. Butler Center yesterday afternoon.

With their Gainesville Police Department escort, 150 marchers began at 1:00 PM and went from Athens Highway to Martin Luther King Boulevard, which took them to New Holland and then across Jesse Jewell Parkway to the Middle School.

There the Reverend Eugene Green led a commemorative program in the gymnasium to honor the slain Civil Rights leader who died 45 years ago.

MLK Jr Holiday in Hall County

Jan. 18, 2013 – The Martin Luther King, Junior Holiday will be observed on Monday, January 21, so the City of Gainesville will be closed.

Hall County’s administrative offices, courts and community centers will be also closed Monday.

However, the landfill and compactor sites will remain open.

Solid waste and recycling will be picked up Tuesday for Monday customers.
Tuesday customers will be picked up Wednesday.
Thursday and Friday will be normal schedule pick up days.

Hall Co MANS Agents Arrest Three for Drugs, Intent to Sell

Jan. 4, 2013 – Hall County Multi Agency Narcotics Squad got the ball rolling this year with the arrest of three people who were apparently selling drugs from their shared apartment.

According to Lt. Scott Ware, On January 02, MANS Agents, assisted by the Gainesville Police Department Uniformed Patrol Division, arrested three individuals during the course of a drug investigation.

Lt. Ware said they received a tip about the individuals and set up surveillance, through out one day they had probable cause and got a search warrent for the apartment of Harold Gilbert, Nikki Lasher Roulhac and Myron Joshua Dooley Jr.

During the course of the search, agents seized quantities of cocaine, heroin, hydrocodone, methamphetamine, and marijuana.

They also found packaging materials, digital scales, over $7,000.00 in US Currency as well as five loaded firearms – four handguns and a shotgun.

All suspects were arrested without incident and were booked in at the Hall County Jail.
